Expressions formed by combining adjectival phrases or Past Participles and the verb être must agree in gender and number with the subject.

être célibataire	to be single
être marié(e)	to be married
être divorcé(e)	to be divorced
être veuf/veuve	to be widowed
être enceinte	to be pregnant
être en retard	to be late
être pressé(e)	to be in a hurry
être à l'heure	to be on time
être prêt(e)	to be ready
être malade	to be sick
être fatigué(e)	to be tired

EXAMPLES

Il est prêt.	He's ready.
Elles sont prêtes.	They (f.) are ready.
Elle est très fatiguée.	She's very tired.
Ils sont très fatigués.	They (m.) are very tired.

Examples of Être Expressions
